A modern red-brick home in Solihull needed a driveway entrance that felt as considered as the house itself — clean, private, and effortless to use every day. This is a good example of a full entrance solution rather than “a gate”: a sliding driveway gate, a matching pedestrian gate, and keypad access, all designed as one piece and built under our own roof.

The brief

The driveway sits between brick pillars with limited room to swing a gate inward, so a sliding gate was the sensible choice — it tracks along the boundary instead of arcing across the drive, keeping the full width usable. The owners wanted a contemporary, private frontage in a colour that would sit quietly against the brick, plus separate pedestrian access and a way in that didn’t rely on a fob left in the car.

The design

We designed the set in aluminium, powder-coated anthracite grey — a deep, modern tone that reads as part of the architecture rather than an add-on. The driveway gate uses a clean, close-boarded contemporary face for privacy from the street, and we matched it with a pedestrian gate in the same material and finish so the whole entrance is visibly one design. Aluminium earns its place here: it won’t rust, it’s light enough to slide smoothly and automate reliably, and the powder-coat holds its finish for years with almost no upkeep.

Access is by keypad entry on the pedestrian side, so the household and expected visitors can let themselves in without a remote.

The build and install

Everything — the metalwork, the finish, the electronics — was made and prepared at our workshop near Droitwich. Designing, building and wiring in-house is exactly why the driveway gate, the pedestrian gate and the access control all match and work together rather than being assembled from separate suppliers.

On site, the sliding gate was set to run cleanly along the boundary and automated for open-at-the-touch-of-a-button use, installed to Gate Safe standards with the safety features an automated gate needs around a family and vehicles.

The result

A Solihull entrance that looks designed-in rather than added-on: private, contemporary, and simple to live with day to day — with a finish built to still look right in a decade. It’s the kind of whole-entrance thinking — gate, pedestrian access and controls as one — that a made-to-measure maker can do and a catalogue supplier can’t.
