A gate is the first thing anyone sees of a home. For this project in Droitwich Spa, a few minutes from our workshop, we designed and fitted driveway gates, pedestrian gates and access control in a traditional style.

The brief
The setting is traditional: red brick, stone-capped piers, a gravel drive. The gates needed to suit that, give a private and secure frontage, and feel like part of the architecture rather than an afterthought. They also had to be easy to live with every day, including letting visitors in.
The design
We designed pairs of swing gates with a solid, panelled lower half for privacy and a more open upper section. The gates come in two designs: black vertical rails set into a gently curved top, or a spindled top. Finishes in light grey and stone sit well against the red brick, and black strap hinges give a traditional, hand-made look.

The driveways have a video intercom with keypad built neatly into the brick pier, so residents can see who’s at the gate and let them in, and use a code themselves. Beside the driveways, black metal pedestrian gates with spear-top finials give a separate way in on foot, in the same traditional style.

The build and install
Every gate was made in our own workshop near Droitwich, drawn to the exact width of the openings, then fitted by the same team. Building in-house is what keeps every gate consistent: the same proportions, the same finish and the same ironmongery.

The result
Gates that look like they’ve always been there, finished with a red ribbon for the reveal.
